Artist Statement:

This project began with an idea that first emerged in my alternative process photography class, where I became fascinated by the beauty of getting lost, intentionally wandering, and discovering unexpected places. In Paris, I shifted that focus from objects to spaces: what happens when I let intuition lead me through a new city? What do I find when I look with intention?

A conversation with church friends also inspired this work. They encouraged me to seek a deeper connection with God while abroad—not through traditional worship but through landscapes, quiet moments, and unfamiliar surroundings. That dual idea—spiritual searching and physical wandering—shaped the direction of this project, which also marks my final college photo class.

My process was simple: take the metro with no destination, get off when it felt right, and explore. I also used class excursions to slow down and take a closer look at the overlooked. At each location, I paused to journal how the space made me feel—emotionally, spiritually, or otherwise. That writing became essential. After not journaling during a previous internship, I realized how much is lost when experiences aren’t documented. This time, I wrote everything down.

The images are visually connected through theme and reflection, but each leans into a unique, often monochromatic, color palette. I used color intentionally to present a pecific mood to my viewers. If I felt that the color was a little disruptive to the image, I would dillute the color using photoshop. However, all of these photos are very minimal in terms of using the editing software. I wanted them to feel more raw, and candid more than anything. Over time, the project evolved from a casual exploration of the place to a deeply introspective record of my time
